Strawberries and blueberries excellent picking and still, the raspberries go on.  Truly, keeping with the extraordinary season, they are still producing.  And if I do anything tomorrow, it will be to take a photo of these extra-ordinary raspberries.  But it's the main season of strawberries and blueberries and so we will give them their due--they are both plentiful and delicious!  With that little bit of water today, everything is refreshed and it should be a fine day in the field tomorrow.

We are open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 2pm.

The berry countdown is as follows:

Raspberries ????  but their days are likely numbered as we've been saying for the last 3 weeks(!)

Blueberries  2 to 3 weeks

Strawberries until the first frost or major rain storm in September

Closed Sunday. Open Monday August 12th at 8am

I'm running out of words so I'll let Bruce Degen, author of "Jamberry," do the talking---

One berry Two berry

Pick me a blueberry

Three berry  Four berry

Hayberry Strawberry

Raspberry Jazzberry

Razzamatazzberry

Berryband Merryband

Jamming in Berryland

A book, a blanket, a basket of berries=summer perfection for children

But pie would be a close second...

We are Open 8am to 2pm Monday to Saturday Bring your own containers.  Bring 3 so you can take home three kinds of berries!

...but the berries are loving it.  The raspberries are doing amazingly well for August 7th.  There are still plenty to pick with ease.  Make the most of their season before their next season which is twelve long months away!

The blueberries continue to be plentiful and you know all about the strawberries.  They are unlimited and with confidence I say, that is not hyperbole.

Summer isn't summer without sweating it out in a field and the best kind of field is one with filled with berries.  We've got plenty of water to keep you hydrated!

Open Monday to Saturday 8am to 2pm.

Another summer long weekend over. Sigh. Nothing to sigh about here though!  It's all great in berry land.  Actually, the raspberries are heading towards the "sigh" point.  Still plenty to pick out there as of today but come pick them this week.   People left with  many bucket loads today but I'm pretty certain there won't be any "great picking in raspberries" posts next week.

Blueberries are excellent.

And strawberries...hopefully you haven't heard enough about them because we've got more to say! Let's talk variety.  There are two varieties of ever-bearing strawberries that we grow.  Seascapes are the super-size, juicy variety.  You can pick 5lbs in 15 mins.   The second variety are Tri-stars.  Tri-stars are not as amazing looking as the Seascapes but being smaller, they are sweeter and packed with the flavour we all remember from back in the day.  They have a short shelf life.  It's eat or freeze pretty quickly after picking.  They are the choice variety for freezing and for jam.

Photo exhibits of the 2 varieties:

All you ever needed to know about Windhover Farm strawberries.  And there is an unlimited supply (that may or not be hyperbole).

What you do need to know is that we are open this week  Monday to Saturday from 8am to 2pm for raspberry, strawberry and blueberry U-pick.

...beaches, barefeet, , baseball (only because it starts with a B does it make the list) and berries, of course.  If you're like me you may get a little panicky once August hits because summer is flying by too quickly.  I need the reminder that there is lots of summer left and the berries are that perfect reminder.  The raspberries are doing exceptionally well for so late in their season.  YOU HAVE NOT missed raspberries.  We still have plenty for picking and will into next week.

The blueberries are keeping up their end of the field and well, you read all about the strawberries yesterday.  No change there.  Crazy amounts for picking.  Don't be shy!

We are open Saturday from 8am to 2pm.  Closed Sunday.  Open holiday Monday 8am to 2pm. There are plenty of great activities going on in the valley this weekend.  If you want an escape from the hustle and bustle, the farm will be a peaceful oasis (mostly).  It was perfectly pleasant weather picking today.

Embrace summer, eat it up!

...STRAWBERRIES. Me, oh my.  For all of you who patiently waited until August for strawberries, it's time.  There are plenty.  An overwhelming amount in fact.  You will get carried away and pick bucket loads.  Don't worry.  We will help you get them to the car.

And yes, the blueberries and raspberries are still great picking and I will point you towards them but I'll be hard-pressed to talk about them.  I'll be the one in the middle of the  strawberry patch waving madly for you to come and pick.  Do us yourself a favour this weekend and make a delicious dessert with strawberries.  Better yet, eat them straight up!  The strawberry season is here!

BTW  That popsicle in yesterday's post, strawberry.  100% strawberry.

No change in the status of berries.  Raspberries, blueberries and strawberries are all great for the picking.  For picking with ease, this is the week for raspberries.  Picking will be more difficult next week.

The blueberries and strawberries will fill their void through August.  August oh my...

Open through Saturday from 8am to 2pm.  Closed Sunday.  Open the holiday Monday for celebrating the holiday with berry goodness!

Photo circa 2010.  Which may be the last time I made popsicles?  A brutal confession from a parent of four young children. If memory serves our family correct, these berry popsicles are deliciously refreshing in the heat.   I'm off to find the popsicle molds which over the years of non-use, have made their way to the bottom of the toy basket.
